For Participants

What is the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund?

  • We are a gender and racial justice project whose mission is to increase positive mental health outcomes for Black queer and trans folks living in Pennsylvania and New Jersey by lowering the barriers to gender-affirming mental health care access through direct financial aid and community education.

Is the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund a mental health organization?

  • No, we are not a mental health organization nor do we provide mental health services. We are a donor- and grant-funded short-term financial support and community education program.

Who can I receive support from the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund?

  • In order to apply, you will need to:

    • Identify as a Black Queer and/or Trans Person,

    • Live in the states of Pennsylvania or New Jersey,

    • Have or find a therapist who is authorized to practice in either PA or NJ and agrees to participate in this program, and

    • Require financial assistance to pay for mental health therapy

I need a therapist. Does the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund have therapists on staff who can help me?

  • Since we are not a mental health organization, we do not employ any therapists. Participants are expected to identify their own therapists. We encourage participants to utilize their trusted community and online directories such as NQTTCN or Inclusive Therapists to find a therapist.

If I receive a mini-grant, how do I know for sure that a therapist will accept it?

  • We encourage participants to have a conversation with their therapist before they apply to our program to ensure that the therapist understands and agrees to work with our program.

How will my therapist receive funds?

  • Upon acceptance, approved participants and their therapists will have to review and sign a Provider Agreement which outlines how our program works. Therapists will then submit invoices to us for payment and we will pay the therapist directly from the awarded mini-grant funds.

For Providers

Can the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund support my clients?

  • Yes! If you are a therapist practicing in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, supporting your Black queer and trans clients is exactly why we are here. Feel free to share our information with them. We’d love to have you as a Contributing Provider.
